The Workswell WIRIS 2nd gen is currently the most state-of-the-art thermal imaging system designed for commercial unmanned aerial vehicles, such as drones. It is a compact system that combines a thermal camera, a digital camera (set to a visible spectrum) and a processor unit that is able to record radiometric data and output it to a digital HDMI port all in one case.
Workswell WIRIS 2nd gen is a revolutionary product within its category, mainly due to the real-time camera control (via standard RC radio transmitter) directly on the drone, providing many options. Using only one button it is possible to remotely save full radiometric imaging data (single pictures and videos), change temperature scale settings, measurement parameters (emissivity and apparent reflected temperature), temperature alarms, etc. These possibilities make the system unique
Workswell’s CorePlayer software for measured data analysis, report creation etc. is delivered together with the system. Workswell’s ThermoFormat software is used for batch editing and exporting pictures (in order to create 3D models).
Workswell’s WIRIS 2nd gen thermal imaging system is supplied with either a 336px×256px resolution (WIRIS 336) or a 640px×512px resolution (WIRIS 640) resolution; you may choose from different objective lenses – see table of lenses below.

Since the end of 2016, the second generation of Workswell’s WIRIS labelled “WIRIS 2nd gen” has been available. Apart from its temperature range being extended up to 1500°C (using a high temperature filter) the second generation of Workswell’s WIRIS product offers the following functions:
- CAN bus
- A faster 10Hz GPS with a jack connector
- The new TIFF format for storage of images
- A possibility of controlling the equipment through TCP/IP
- Real time hours are significantly more accurate now
- Digital outputs for the autopilot and GPS synchronisation
- An integrated stabilised source for the RC receiver
- 4 openings for an easier installation on the gimbal
For this reason, there are currently only 7 digital PWM inputs available (the eight being used for the SBus).
We are offering a ready to fly combo including a DJI M600 Pro drone and Workswell WIRIS thermal imaging camera that is a fully compatible with the DJI CAN protocol. There is only one cable to connect to use the DJI GO application with the Workswell WIRIS.

Even though you will be using the Workswell WIRIS system during many flight hours, a great part of your work will be dedicated to analysis and evaluation of the collected data. Most of the time, the simple transfer of “pictures” will not be enough, and it will be necessary to perform a detailed analysis and create a protocol. That is why Workswell CorePlayer system, or possibly Workswell ThermoFormat analytical software, are part of every WIRIS delivery package.
Software is designed to perform detailed analysis, editing, exporting to different formats, and creating comprehensive reports from the thermograms recorded by Workswell WIRIS. All common functionalities for analysis of such data (temperature on the spot, minimum and maximum of the area, temperature profile, zoom, change in temperature scale, color palette, emissivity etc.) are available within the software, as well as extending functions such as GPS position on a map, or displaying the digital picture taken by WIRIS. ThermoFormat software is designed mainly for batch administration of recorded thermograms. In case you need to change the color palette, emissivity, or temperature scale in all the recorded thermograms, ThermoFormat contains this function and thus saves you a lot of time. Export of recorded thermograms with EXIF metadata in order to be able to create photogrammetry and 3D models is yet another great added value.
