The production of laminated working boards is a demanding process where the temperature needs to be checked in many areas. The ThermoInspector – inspection system for contact-free monitoring, analysis and evaluation of temperature is implemented for this application in order to check the area where the laminate is bent around the front round edge of the working board. In this production phase, it is necessary to monitor temperature of the input between the bending rollers, which must be within the range 90-140°C. At the same time, it is necessary to check the proportional character of the heating by standard deviation measured along the whole width of the edge. In the case of an incorrect temperature, the edge could be sealed non-proportionally or could exceed the surface or be creased, which can result in financial losses, complaints and result in a poor company reputation. The ThermoInspector system helps to prevent all these risks.
In one of a series of applications, the ThermoInspector TI80-12 system is used to check the temperature of the overheated edge of the working board before bending. At the point of entering the monitored area, the edge is pre-heated to the temperature, for example 90-140°C. Throughout the whole time, the control area is monitored by the Workswell WIC thermal camera with a 19mm lens and a resolution of 160×120 pixels. The working distance is approximately 400mm. Due to the risky working environment, the camera is located in the light and also has a robust cover from Workswell s.r.o. with IP65 coverage, replaceable IR glass and is easy to assemble. The thermal camera is fixed so that its field of vision is directed in a 12° angle upward to the edge of the working board that continuously moves on the rollers on the line. In this application, the user does not require feedback on the manufacturing process on the basis of measured data but only visual inspection of the temperature of the edge. The temperature is measured on three lines across the edge of the board. The length of the line is about 40 pixels: one checks the maximum temperature, e.g. 120°C, the second minimum temperature, e.g. 80°C and using the third line, the standard deviation is calculated, which determines the proportional character of heating the edge. In the case of the deviation of the measured values from the set limits, the system signals a defect on the monitor.
The Workswell ThermoInspector system has been used for this application from 2013. On the basis of control measurement, it is easy to determine an incorrectly sealed edge and to exclude the defective piece from distribution and to reduce costs from reclaim proceedings and those incurred when resolving problems in production.
